Katee Sackhoff is known in the Star Wars Universe for voicing Nite Owls leader and Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. She reprised that role in live-action form for Disney+’s The Mandalorian and now the actress is revealing exactly how she found out that her iconic character would be coming to life in live-action.
The sci-fi actress has voiced Bo-Katan since Star Wars: The Clone Wars, making her first appearance in Season 4, Episode 14 and appeared throughout, as well as in Star Wars: Rebels starting in 2017. Katee Sackhoff told Looper how she found out she would get to play Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian and the way she found out was just as surreal as you would think:
So I got the offer for the voice, which was great. And for The Mandalorian, it wasn't really a casting process as much as it was just a meeting with Jon [Favreau]. It took me a good way through that meeting to realize that he was actually asking me if I wanted the job. I was such a dum-dum, because as I finally started looking around, there were pictures all over the wall, and they were breaking down the season of The Mandalorian, and I was in them. I was like, 'What is happening?' It was pretty surreal. I just remember sitting with my hands between my legs, cross-legged just like desperately trying to not fidget because I was so nervous to just be in the room, which is crazy.
Last year, Katee Sackhoff had said that despite voicing Bo-Katan for years in multiple Star Wars animated series, she never really fully considered how the role would be played in live-action, which presented itself as a challenge. It seemed she was doing something right, as Bo-Katan’s live-action debut on The Mandalorian was greeted with cheers from the majority of the fanbase. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni gave her some great action scenes and important dialogue scenes, which made it easy to keep viewers invested in her story.
There’s no telling on whether or not Katee Sackhoff will return as Bo-Katan, either in The Mandalorian or as a voice on another Star Wars series. Since she’s been playing the character for so long, it’s hard to not imagine her as the female Mandalorian, no matter in what capacity. The actress is still keeping busy, however, as her Netflix series, Another Life, is expected to premiere its second season, hopefully sometime this year as it wrapped filming last December.
Whatever the case, fans can expect to see Katee Sackhoff in more sci-fi projects for years to come, no matter what character she’s playing. For now, you can rewatch her as live-action Bo-Katan with The Mandalorian Season 2 streaming on Disney+ now.
